Originally founded in 1821, The Hospitaler Sisters of Mercy today have a global presence in over 14 countries, providing services and care to the sick, the poor, the disenfranchised. We are also called to evangelization and providing spiritual guidance to those in need.
The Spirit of the congregation is clearly expressed in our constitution: To assist Jesus suffering in His members. Besides the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, we take a special vow of hospitality. In addition to our religious studies, we are also professionally trained in various fields which permit us to meet medical, social, educational, and humanitarian needs of those we are called to serve.
In 2021 we celebrated our 200 Anniversary of our founding, we were led by our Lord to assume the spiritual mission of the Retreat Center here in Opelousas Louisiana. We are blessed to be able to offer our grounds and facilities to those who are in need of quiet contemplation or spiritual renewal.
